The Career Counselor directs and administers career services for undergraduate and graduate economics majors, coordinates career services activities in collaboration with the colleges Center for Career and Professional Success (CCPS) and serves as the primary departmental liaison to the CCPS. This role consults and collaborates with the Industry Connections team in CCPS to develop an industry outreach strategy that effectively addresses the needs of economics students and consults and collaborates with the Internship Specialist in CCPS to develop an internship / experiential learning strategy that effectively addresses the needs of economics students and is consistent with emerging college-wide internship planning initiatives. This role develops and manages database of career opportunities and information for econ majors, leveraging institutional student / employer database (Handshake) to manage career opportunities and information for econ majors. The Career Counselor develops and implements communications through various media to economics majors about job opportunities and career information, advises undergraduate and graduate economics majors on career plans and job opportunities, creates and manages activities and programs to assist economics majors in career planning and job search techniques, and consults with employers regarding labor market supply and demand and recruitment trends. The Career Counselor evaluates effectiveness of career services offerings and makes enhancements as needed, prepares bi-annual reports to the chair, and presents to the Economics Advisory Board on the number of students served and student outcomes.
Qualifications
Required : Bachelor’s degree in counseling, student personnel, psychology or related field, or equivalent experience. 2 years of relevant experience required.
Desired : Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, psychology or related field. Knowledge of occupational, career and job information resources, technology and materials pertaining to the preparation and career advancement. Experience with individual career counseling and workshop facilitation.
