Principal Fleet Motor Engineer – Southern Nuclear – Birmingham (or Remote)

Summary of Position Duties
The Fleet Plant Engineering Support I&C Manager will provide technical support to the Southern Nuclear fleet of 8 operating units for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support.
The role will also manage motor maintenance and lifecycle programs, including long-range planning, performance monitoring, procedure development, and specification input.
Key Responsibilities
- Support fleet motor electrical and controls for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motors.
- Oversee motor maintenance, lifecycle management, and long-range planning.
- Develop and implement motor reliability programs and performance monitoring.
- Coordinate vendor factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
- Assist in specification development and motor procurement.
- Provide on-site, field, and repair facility support for motor issues and special projects or outages.
Job and Educational Requirements
B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or a Bachelor of Science in an alternative engineering curriculum combined with an in-depth power generation experience).Minimum 5 years of motor experience, 2 years at a nuclear generation facility.Strong knowledge of motor designs, maintenance practices, refurbishment, repair, troubleshooting techniques, and monitoring.Experience with vendor factory acceptance testing, performance testing, and site acceptance testing.Proficiency in supporting maintenance and engineering for motor equipment issues, including special projects or outages.Must be able to satisfy the minimum SNC physical requirements for the position.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep technical background in engineering and knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for nuclear power plants.Strong problem-solving ability and sound engineering judgment.Comprehensive understanding of design basis, configuration management, project management, procurement, and specifications.Detailed knowledge of motors used in nuclear power generating facilities.Expertise in addressing operational, maintenance, and reliability issues for medium and low voltage AC motors.Experience developing life-cycle plans and strategies for motor replacement and reliability programs.Ability to implement and maintain motor equipment reliability programs for the SNC fleet.Excellent communication skills to drive technical problem resolution across plant sites and corporate office.Effective collaboration across diverse groups at plant sites and corporate office.Experience interfacing with vendors and service suppliers on motor procurement, repair plans, troubleshooting, performance problems, and vendor performance evaluation.Ability to keep SNC abreast of emerging issues and technology within the assigned area of responsibility.Ability to assist in developing, reviewing, and approving motor specifications.Behavioral Attributes
