The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking a temporary part-time, as needed (PRN) dental hygienist for its affiliated Dental Faculty Practice (DFP), 8-40 hours per week. When our faculty dentists and faculty hygienists are not teaching the next generation of dentists and hygienists, our faculty provide expert care for children and adults through DFP and provide virtually every area of dental care available.
Serve as a temporary dental hygienist performing dental hygiene services in the Dental Faculty Practice in the College of Dentistry; Dental Hygienists prevent and treat disease, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity. Duties may include : taking and developing dental x-rays, cleaning teeth, placing sealants and fluorides on the teeth, teaching patients how to brush and floss properly and taking patient history. Educates the patient on nutrition to optimize good dental health and more. This position will stock and set up operatories; manages patient record; and provides education to patients.
A dental hygienist needs to be able to use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental handpieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for handpieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity / motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication / language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following : bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
