Must-Have :

Will accept a traveler with 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting.

Description :

This is an Emergency Room position with approximately 170-200 patients per day.

The unit has 56 beds, with additional hall beds bringing the total to 60-70.

There are 6 fast track beds for low-acuity patients.

The triage area is separate, featuring 5 beds.

Travelers may take a triage test for potential assignments, although department staff are generally assigned triage.

The Emergency Department includes a holding area with 18 beds for inpatients awaiting placement.

Emergency Room RNs manage their own holds, but inpatient RNs may float to assist.

There are separate secure rooms for mental health patients, consisting of a locked hall with 6 private treatment rooms.

In-house security is available to ensure safety.

Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 3, with a maximum of 1 : 4 for low acuity cases.

Common patient diagnoses include cardiac issues, stroke, sepsis, DKA, altered mental status, respiratory problems, and abdominal pain.

In the unit, ED Techs perform EKGs, while respiratory therapists manage equipment such as vents and CPAPs.

Transport assists with patient movement as necessary.

Primarily, nurses or ED Techs draw blood, with lab support available for difficult cases.

Weekend work is required every other week.

Employees must work on either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's unless conflicts with unit needs arise.

There are no call or standby requirements.

Extra shifts may be available but are not mandatory.

Professional colors are expected as dress code.

No requests for time off will be considered during the first full week of a traveler's assignment.

The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts in a 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for shorter assignments.

Charting is done using the Epic system.

A BSN is not required for this position.
