Job Title : Shipfitter
Shipfitter in the Repair Department (TRF-300), Hull Division, Shipfitter Shop (11A) of Trireffac Kings Bay. Responsibilities include fabricating and installing various metal structural parts of submarines. Shape metal pieces and assemble components to form required submarine parts. Overhaul submarine hatches and doors. Set parts in proper position, aligns, and adjusts using optical squares, jacks, turnbuckles, shoving saddles, clips, wedges, and hammers. Line up parts for welding or riveting, installing temporary fasteners as required.
Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen-out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Works from blueprints and templates to lay out submarine structural parts. Installs and fits structural parts on submarines utilizing services of other trades. Shapes metal pieces and assembles components to form required submarine parts. Rolls, bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal structural shapes using various shop machinery. Possess knowledge of equipment, structures, materials, etc. associated with submarine shipfitting operations. Possess the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment related to the shipfitter trade. Overhalls submarine hatches and doors. Sets parts in proper position, aligns, and adjusts using optical squares, jacks, turnbuckles, shoving saddles, clips, wedges, and hammers.
