Job description

Chief Operating Officer (COO) Location : New York City Client : Major Hospital System We are seeking an accomplished Chief Operating Officer (COO) to partner with the Chief Executive Officer of a leading hospital system in New York City. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced healthcare operations leader to drive excellence and efficiency across a complex organization. The COO will provide high-level operational oversight, ensure strategic alignment, and strengthen systems that support patient care, compliance, and performance outcomes. The successful candidate will exercise significant independent judgment and initiative in supervising overall administration and management, serving as a trusted deputy to the CEO. The COO will assume full responsibility and authority in delegated areas and may oversee key functions, including Operations, Facilities Management, Ancillary Services, Clinical Operations, and Emergency Management. Key Responsibilities Lead and support the planning, development, and execution of programs, policies, and procedures to achieve organizational goals and performance standards. Guide implementation of operational initiatives, ensuring effective coordination between hospital facilities and corporate leadership. Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards, ensuring continuous readiness for inspections and reviews. Provide recommendations on capital projects, facility improvements, and equipment procurement consistent with operational policies. Facilitate communication and collaboration across departments through structured meetings and committee representation. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, professional associations, regulatory bodies, and community partners. Support data-driven decision-making through the development and oversight of management reporting systems for performance and planning. Champion a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement; mentor leaders and staff to achieve high operational standards. Collaborate with executive leadership on annual budget planning, revenue forecasting, and cost control initiatives. Serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer when delegated. Required Education Master's Degree with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Hospital Health Care, Medical Administration, or a related program. Required Qualifications Minimum of six (6) years of senior-level leadership experience in hospital administration, business administration, or public administration, with direct responsibility for operations or major functional areas. Proven record of success in hospital or healthcare system management, including substantial experience addressing community and regulatory requirements. In-depth knowledge of hospital operations, healthcare laws, and compliance frameworks. Strong analytical, strategic, and leadership skills with the ability to thrive in complex, fast-paced environments.
