AI Strategy Director
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Strategy team and has a new opportunity for an AI Strategy Director. This position will lead the enterprise effort to develop, align, and measure outcomes of artificial intelligence initiatives with strategic business priorities. This position serves as a senior-level cross-functional coordinator, translating complex business needs into actionable AI opportunities, and partnering closely with IT to prioritize initiatives and support effective execution. The Director, AI Strategy will oversee AI strategy, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the integration of AI-driven solutions which drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage. This position will report to the Chief of Staff.
This position is eligible to work remotely, hybrid or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

What You'll Do
Develop and execute the organization's AI strategy in alignment with business goals and market opportunities to generate measurable value.Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of natural language processing, computer vision, and other AI applications.Coordinate cross-functional AI initiatives, including use case intake and roadmap development.Communicate complex AI concepts and project updates to executive leadership and stakeholders in a clear and impactful manner.Guide AI solution development across use cases to assess feasibility and support delivery planning in collaboration with Principal AI Architect.Stay informed of AI research trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to maintain the company's leadership in AI innovation.Foster collaboration with IT, product, engineering, and business teams to identify AI opportunities and translate them into scalable solutions.Promote an environment that encourages ongoing learning and innovative experimentation with AI technologies. Support change management and business adoption of AI-powered solutions.Establish partnerships with academic institutions, AI communities, and technology vendors to enhance AI capabilities and innovation.What You Need
High school diploma or equivalent required.Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field preferred. In lieu of degree, minimum of 10+ years' progressive, relevant experience within direct or related field required.Minimum of 8+ years' experience in AI, or data science roles required.Minimum of 3+ years' experience leading multidisciplinary or cross-functional teams required.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
Proven leadership and influencing skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary AI teams.Strong strategic thinking and ability to drive AI innovation to create measurable business value.Exceptional ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders, executives, and partners.Adept at translating strategic business objectives into AI solutions by identifying core problems, structuring complex or ambiguous challenges, and aligning them with appropriate machine learning techniques and technologies.Experience with AI ethics, fairness, and compliance considerations. Familiarity with AI deployment, model monitoring, and MLOps best practices.Knowledge of how AI can be applied to solve real-world problems in specific industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, government, energy).Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving AI technologies and market trends.Strong understanding of data engineering, big data technologies, and software development life cycle.Bonus if you have :
