Position Summary
SMUD is seeking a leased employee, UNIX System Administrator, to support the administration, maintenance, upgrade, and troubleshooting of AIX / IBM and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems within the organization's IT infrastructure. This role will ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of UNIX environments, support system migrations, and maintain comprehensive documentation for all UNIX-related assets and processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. AIX / IBM System Administration
- Perform day-to-day administration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of AIX systems, VIOS, HMC's, and Managed Systems.
- Provision and manage AIX virtual server builds using PowerVM technology.
- Perform administration of AIX LPARs configured as part of a PowerHA cluster.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and implement remediation strategies to secure AIX / IBM environments.
- Manage IBM Power lifecycle migrations including planning, execution, and validation.
- Integrate AIX Logical Partitions (LPARs) with the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) for accurate asset tracking.
- Support application migrations from AIX / IBM platforms to Red Hat Enterprise Linux on x86 architectures or to Cloud hosted environments.
2. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Administration
Administer, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.Identify and remediate vulnerabilities within RHEL environments to meet security compliance standards.3. Documentation and Asset Management
Maintain up-to-date documentation and technical diagrams related to the UNIX infrastructure and processes.Ensure all system changes, migrations, and configurations are accurately recorded and aligned with organizational policies.4. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including security, application development, and infrastructure to support system requirements.To participate in outage planning, capacity planning, and performance tuning to optimize system availability.Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices and standard operating procedures for UNIX system management.5. Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned by management to support the overall IT infrastructure goals.Qualifications
Required :
Must have minimum five (5) years' experience with server infrastructure in an Enterprise level environment.Must have minimum five (5) years' experience with IBM AIX in an Enterprise level environment.Must have minimum five (5) years' experience with building, patching, and administering AIX, PowerHA, HMC, VIOS, & Managed Systems.Must have experience with troubleshooting of AIX based environment.Must have experience with IBM PowerVM virtualization environment (AIX).Must have experience with system build processes and procedures in a virtualized environment.Must have experience with monitoring capabilities to assist in troubleshooting and preventative maintenance in a UNIX based environment.Must have experience with hardening Operating Systems to meet information security standardsPreferred :
