Overview

Job Summary : Demonstrates competency in patient care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Under the supervision of Leadership Team and the direction of a cardiologist, the EP Technologist performs three roles : 1) sets up and operates specialized equipment for ablation procedures; 2) assists Cardiac Electrophysiologists in EP Lab procedures, including analysis of electrocardiograph data, program stimulation, induction and termination of cardiac arrhythmias, creation of 3D maps, and data entry into the Cardiovascular database; 3) assists with invasive procedures related to intra-cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers, prepares sterile field and assists physician, with instrument care and after-care. May involve distributing drugs, needles or syringes per hospital policy / procedure.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate specialized EP equipment : physiological data recording system, computers, programmable stimulators, mapping system, and ablation generators.
• Assist Cardiac Electrophysiologists in EP Lab procedures : analyze ECG data, perform program stimulation, induce / terminate arrhythmias, apply energy to catheters, create 3D maps, enter procedural data into clinical database.
• Assist with invasive procedures related to intra-cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers; set up sterile table, apply sterile drapes, hand instruments and sutures to the physician, perform after-care of instruments.
• Distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations to treatment areas as defined by policy / procedure.

Job Requirements

1. Radiation safety requirements and practices for the operator, Title 17.

2. Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

3. Pacemaker equipment and programming.

4. Aseptic techniques.

5. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

6. Database applications and data collection.

7. Reporting of patient procedural and department activities.

8. Cardiac hemodynamics; advanced ECG interpretation.

9. Various ablation therapies.

10. Electrical and mechanical mapping of heart chambers.

11. Operation of hemodynamic monitors and computers.

1. Move quickly and perform CPR while wearing radiation protection gear.

2. Assist with pacemaker insertion and related procedures.

3. Maintain patient confidentiality.

4. Follow established procedures and protocols.

5. Work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as needed.

6. Organize work, maintain accurate records.

7. Work with minimum supervision.

Preferred

Note : Where staffing is experienced enough to support a trainee, applicants without requisite experience may be considered. NASPE Testamur designation required within two years.

Pay Range : $64.43 - $74.70 / hour
