Summary
Supervises and coordinates the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of the daily operations of patient access areas. Helps provide guidance for quality performance and the importance of data integrity. Coordinates staff development with departmental education coordinator and preceptors. Ensure compliance with all Joint Commission, CMS, and other governmental standards for Patient Access Processing.Major Job Functions

Monitors and coordinates the daily activities of the Patient Access personnel to produce successful outcomes
Maintains and prepares payroll time records and reports
Interviews and recommends applicants for employment
Prepares and presents performance reports to Leadership and others as necessary
Assist with coverage of Patient Access areas when shortages occur and cross trains in all areas of Patient Access
Provides leadership and support to all areas of patient access and is expected to be available to address any issues
Conducts audits of employees work ensuring the data in the systems are accurate and complete
Collaborates with management in continuous process improvements
Provide training and education on policies, procedures, and systems
Completes and conducts yearly evaluations
Facilitate monthly department meetings and attend leadership meetings
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma required
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Healthcare Administration required OR 8 years of hospital Patient Access experience required
HBI or CHAA and CAM Certification required within one year of employment
Work Experience:
3 years of hospital Patient Access experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to type 45 words per minute
Ability to coordinate staffing and other supervisory activities required
Ability to work unsupervised
Proficient in MS Office applications required
Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve and multi-task required
Must be multi-skilled with the ability to appropriately handle complexity and stress with the changing needs of the patients, families, visitors, and the Health System
Knowledge of insurance and collection of payments required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
Demonstrated customer service skills to a variety of customers from different cultural and economic backgrounds preferred
Ability to maintain current knowledge in all applications requires ability to maintain skill set in all registration applications, functions, and responsibilities
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to communicate orally, see, and hear to collect information
Must have dexterity to operate office equipment
Subject to eyestrain due to the many hours spent looking at a computer screen
Sitting or standing in intervals for long periods of time
Noise level is low to moderate
Answers telephone calls, uses computer, and other business machines extensively
Bends, reaches pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports
Ability to transport patients and assist with baggage
Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
