Akron General's Emergency Department is a Level 1 trauma center that offers the technology, expertise, and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. A caregiver in this position works days from 7 : 00AM 7 : 30PM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will :

• Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer, or emergencies.
• Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing / refreshing bed linens, dressing / undressing, feeding, etc.
• Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight, and height.
• Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction.
• Perform EKGs and urinary catheterization in the ED only.
• Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying / utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
• Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
• Collect, properly label, and transport specimens to proper area in timely manner.
• Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
• Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment (as assigned) and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies.
• Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs, and mandatory training to maintain certification and / or licensure.
