Clinical Laboratory Services provides an array of timely and accurate diagnostic testing and other services to Baptist Health Corbin's patients, and to other patients and organizations in support of the facilities mission, vision and strategic priorities.
The phlebotomist is responsible for specimen collections, accessioning, labeling and transport of specimens, while optimizing patient safety with minimal medical / health care errors in any or all the sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
Job Description : Phlebotomist
- Collects blood samples from patients of all ages using proper techniques, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Properly identify patients and specimens according to established protocols.
- Explains collection procedures and provides reassurance to reduce patient anxiety.
- Prioritizes and organizes workload to ensure timely specimen collection and processing.
- Reviews patient orders and ensures all required specimens are collected accurately and on time.
- Assesses patient condition and medication schedules to ensure specimen quality.
- Performs first aid or seeks assistance when complications arise during phlebotomy.
- Accurate accession of specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Documents and labels specimens neatly, legibly, and with minimal errors.
- Follows guidelines and regulations of all applicable safety and accrediting agencies.
- Participates in the laboratory's Quality Assurance (QA) Program.
- Communicates effectively with coworkers, physicians, and patients to ensure seamless workflow and patient care.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service, handling inquiries and complaints promptly.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and positive communication across all shifts.
- Assists with training of students and new employees.
- Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies; notifies appropriate personnel of departmental needs.
- Attends all required safety and emergency preparedness training sessions.
- Adheres to hospital dress codes, infection control, and safety policies.
- Performs additional departmental or assigned duties as needed.
Requirements :
High School Diploma or equivalent.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.Benefits : Full-Time 32 weekly hours (0.8 FTE) - 40 weekly hours (1.0 FTE)
