Overview

Civic News Company, parent company of the nonprofit newsrooms Votebeat, Chalkbeat, and Healthbeat, is seeking an Arizona Reporter, Votebeat to cover voting access, election security, disinformation, lawsuits, and breaking news during primary and general elections, as well as voting data, technology, reform advocacy, and policy changes. The reporter will engage with the community, collaborate with editors and colleagues, and provide accurate, nuanced reporting on election administration. Reporting will highlight challenges facing election officials, the politicization of voting, and the impact of shifting state and federal laws in one of the nation’s most closely watched swing states. This position reports to the Editor in Chief, Votebeat. The salary range is $75,000-$90,000; final salary will be determined based on level of experience and geographic location, with a generous benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Votebeat editors to report on voting access, election security, disinformation, lawsuits, and breaking election news.
• Cover additional topics including voting data, technology, reform advocacy, and policy changes.
• Act as Votebeat’s public voice in Arizona through community engagement and public events.
• Produce a biweekly newsletter to inform and connect with readers.
