ABOUT THE ROLE

The Building Services Lead is responsible for both performing and overseeing daily cleaning and sanitation operations across multiple industrial buildings at the Alpena Cement Plant. This hands-on role ensures a safe, clean and orderly work environment by leading a small team of Building Services Technicians, coordinating schedules, monitoring performance, and performing routine and specialized cleaning tasks across designated areas of the plant. This position includes, but is not limited to, operational facilities such as the quarry, raw grind, kiln, electrical building, powerhouse, yard, finish grind and shipping buildings.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Lead and supervise two Building Services Technicians, providing daily direction, support, and on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate cleaning schedules to ensure timely and effective coverage of all assigned areas.
  • Monitor team performance, attendance, and adherence to safety and cleaning standards; escalate issues to management as needed.
  • Maintain communication with the Area Leader and other departments to align cleaning activities with plant operations.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, pressure washing, and industrial sanitation in designated plant buildings.
  • Clean restrooms and break areas, empty waste and recycling bins, and maintain cleanliness in high-traffice and operational zones.
  • Operate industrial cleaning equipment (e.g. vacuums, floor scrubbers, pressure washers).
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and inventory of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment concerns promptly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education : High school diploma or equivalent or 3-5 years of equivalent experience.

Additional Education Preferred : Associate's degree

Field of Study Preferred : College or technical school experience preferred

Additional Requirements :

  • Work is primarily performed in industrial plant settings, including dusty, noisy, and high-temperature environments.
  • May involve exposure to cement dust, lubricants, grease and other industrial materials.
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting (up to 45 lbs).
  • Prior industrial or facilities cleaning experience (preferred).
  • Strong commitment to safety and cleanliness.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals and safe handling practices.
  • Full-time position; shift schedule may vary depending upon plant operations.
  • Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required based on plant needs.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
