Director of Crisis Care (Olympic - Suicide Prevention Counseling Center)

This is a hybrid position based in Century City, CA.

The pay range for this role is between $100,000-$120,000 annually.

Summary

As the Director of Crisis Care, you will oversee a growing department that includes the Suicide Prevention Counseling Center (SPCC), Disaster Care services, and future clinical programs as they are developed. You will build program infrastructure and shape crisis and disaster care operations. You will guide strategy, provide clinical and operational leadership, drive implementation, and partner closely with other agency leaders to develop sustainable, trauma-informed systems of care.

Primary Duties

Program Leadership

  • Defines and implements the strategic vision, goals, and objectives of the Crisis & Disaster Care Department which includes Suicide Prevention Counseling Center services, Disaster Care services and any future clinical programs. Closely partners with other agency leaders to develop sustainable, trauma-informed systems of care.
  • Co-develops and oversees implementation of established best practices for the care of those with (or at risk of) suicidal ideation, those who have attempted suicide, or those bereaving the loss of a loved one to suicide.
  • Co-develops and oversees implementation of clinical best practices in the short- and long-term emotional recovery of those impacted by a natural or human-caused disaster, inclusive of mental health counseling, outreach, training, and community engagement for both those directly impacted and first responders.
  • Builds and grows these services so they are effective clinically, operationally, and fiscally. Develops strong partnerships with agencies and key stakeholders in the community that could serve as referral sources and experts to grow the programs.
  • Provides strong, mission-driven leadership to program staff ensuring high-quality client care and consistent achievement of performance goals outlined by grants, contracts, and agency standards.
  • Builds a collaborative, effective team to achieve both immediate programmatic needs and long-term departmental growth.

Management Duties

  • Oversees recruitment, hiring, onboarding training, performance evaluation, and professional development for program staff across the Crisis & Disaster Care Department.
  • Provides clinical supervision and consultation for clinicians seeing cases in the Suicide Prevention Counseling Center or disaster care program. Identifies training needs and ensures the development, delivery, and evaluation of relevant trainings in collaboration with the Training Division; facilitates or co-leads training as needed to support program quality and staff growth.
  • Ensures staff have clear work plans, defined responsibilities, and appropriate support to succeed in their roles; fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, belonging, and clinical excellence.
  • Supervises assigned staff to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed client care.
  • Provides immediate supervision and consultation in the midst of crises.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of all clinical and program documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and required outcome measures or data reports,
  • Participates in and facilitates team meetings and other department gatherings to support coordination, learning, and team cohesion.
  • Represents the department in community settings and with external partners (e.g., Department of Mental Health, referral agencies); ensures strong, collaborative relationships that support continuity of care.
  • Develops and strengthens referral relationships and ensures effective procedures are in place for referral, admission, care coordination, and discharge processes across all department programs.
  • Program Quality, Compliance and Reporting

  • Establishes clear, measurable objectives that align with agency priorities, program goals, funding requirements and needs; regularly monitors progress and metrics to ensure operational and fiscal effectiveness
  • Works closely with the Quality Improvement (QI) Division to develop, revise, and expand program-specific policies and procedures to support effective growth, clinical quality, and regulatory alignment across all Crisis & Disaster Care programs.
  • Reviews chart documentation to ensure all legal, contractual, and revenue-generating reports meet or exceed required Agency and applicable regulatory agencies' standards.
  • Financial Duties

  • In collaboration with the Business Development Director, regularly examines metrics that drive business operations and makes changes to optimize program efficiency and growth.
  • Helps ensure long-term financial sustainability by participating in planning efforts related to new funding opportunities, grant applications, and service expansion, in close collaboration with the Grants Team, Business Development, and Finance.
  • Assists in development of program budget and ensures expenditures comply with approved budgets; monitors and evaluates budget issues and recommends corrective action.
  • Position Requirements

  • Current California License as a clinician (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, PhD) and at least 5 years post-licensure.
  • Experience or interest in strategic planning and / or program development, especially in emerging or growing service areas.
  • Minimum of 3 years providing clinical service and supervision in a social service / mental health and / or substance use setting. Experience in trauma, crisis intervention, disaster care, and / or suicide Prevention is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with private insurance and private pay clinical practice settings a plus.
  • Strong initiative to grow and expand programs.
  • Support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch as related to employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Evidence Based Practices.
  • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures, HIPAA, DMH policies and documentation guidelines, and other state, federal regulations relating to quality assurance and improvement.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and management skills.
  • Able to respond to crises as they arise while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Be experienced in the types of therapy and case management appropriate to the program.
  • Present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Efficiently use the personal computer including word processing, spreadsheets, and other related software programs.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records.
  • Have strong presentation and media skills.
  • Manage employee performance consistent with defined Didi Hirsch processes.
  • Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make solid business and therapeutic decisions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies.
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Current California driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.
