Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, preferably in a public education, government, or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience working in or with school systems is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of media relations, digital engagement, and public affairs.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
  • Experience with crisis communications and managing sensitive or high-stakes issues.
  • Proficiency in digital tools including content management systems, social media platforms, email marketing tools, and design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to equity-centered communication.

Reports To :

Superintendent or designee

Responsibilities :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with district goals and initiatives.
  • Lead crisis communication efforts in collaboration with senior leadership, ensuring accurate, timely, and coordinated messaging.
  • Oversee media relations, serving as a district spokesperson when appropriate and managing responses to media inquiries.
  • Advise district leadership on public relations matters and messaging for high-profile
  • Craft compelling, accessible, and culturally responsive content for a variety of formats, including newsletters, press releases, website content, reports, speeches, presentations, and social media.
  • Maintain editorial oversight and consistency in the district's voice, tone, and messaging across all communication channels.
  • Supervise the creation of print and digital collateral to support district programs, initiatives, and community engagement.
  • Strengthen communication and engagement with families, staff, and community members.
  • Coordinate internal communications to ensure district employees are informed, aligned, and equipped to support key initiatives.
  • Facilitate opportunities for two-way communication between the district and its stakeholders.
  • Manage the district's digital presence, including website and social media platforms, ensuring content is up-to-date and user-friendly.
  • Protect and promote the district's brand identity, ensuring consistent visual and messaging standards.
  • Use data analytics and stakeholder feedback to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and make data-informed improvements.
  • Supervise communications staff (as applicable) and collaborate across departments to support cross-functional communication needs.
  • Provide communications training and support to school leaders and department heads.
  • Performs other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment as assigned by appropriate staff.
  • EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified staff.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    Non Affiliated Staff, 12 Months

    Salary Range : $80,000 - $100,000 annually (12-month salaried position)
