Job Title : Digital Content Producer (Part-Time) - WHIO TV
Overview
The Digital Content Producer works with a 24-7 team to monitor, gather and create news content for use on all media platforms—TV, digital website, mobile applications and social media. The right candidate will have a passion for news, discovering the facts and urgent reporting of those facts to the users and viewers of WHIO news.
WHIO is the #1 CBS affiliate in the country and the dominant #1 station in Southwest Ohio. Our news team has won countless AP, SPJ, and Emmy Awards for our news coverage on both digital and broadcast platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Keen sense of news judgement for each media platform—what drives audience on that platform
- Multi-platform mindset—gather news through all platforms
- News gatherer—excels at developing relationships and trust with contacts and sources
- Team player—able to handle other assignments as needed, showing flexibility, adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a positive, can-do attitude
- Distribute content on all platforms—broadcast TV, radio, digital apps, social media
- Understanding of newsroom logistics and ability to move crews—we are a content distributor, not just a newsroom
- Provide urgent writing of content for all platforms : TV, digital, social, etc.
- Sense of urgency—ability to work under pressure
- Willing to evolve, learn new skills, new technology, embrace change
- Prioritize a large volume of writing assignments based on urgency, platform needs and deadlines
- Knowledge of writing for all platforms—broadcast, digital, social, push alerts, radio
- Monitor a variety of "in" points for news—police, fire scanners, social media, email, internal wires, phone calls
- Identify newsworthy content from scanners
- Ability to recognize trending stories online and provide timely updates for multiple platforms
- Must be social media savvy and possess thorough grasp of the use of social media for audience engagement
- Detail oriented, highly organized planner
- Must be able to take direction
- Must be able to work any shift, including overnights and weekends—the newsroom is 24 / 7
- Must be accessible to contact during big breaking news situations and "all hands-on deck" are needed
- Strong understanding of grammar, spelling, ability to make cold calls, ask questions
Minimum Qualifications
Study in a relevant field required (Journalism, Communications, Social Media, Broadcast Technology, English)No professional news experience requiredMust have a valid driver's license and clean driving recordPreferred Qualifications
