Job description

Community Outreach Coordinator

Reporting directly to the Director of Animal Services, responsible for coordinating community outreach programs, including fundraisers, marketing, media requests, and supervising off-site events.

Manages community outreach program, including corresponding to solicitations, overseeing outreach event calendar, event planning and execution, recruiting volunteer support, and facilitates student programs, including tours, donation projects, and education.

Heads all shelter marketing, including print and online collateral creation, social media management and content creation, and serves as website liaison to IT Department.

Manages animal bios and photographs on shelter's website daily.

Develops marketing and promotional strategies to sustain a positive community image.

Maintains media relations, including interview participation, responding to public inquiries, content creation, writing press releases, and serves as liaison between local reporters and the shelter.

Organizes rescue program, including vetting new partner organizations, communicating needs to partners, implementing procedures for effectively transferring animals, and managing volunteers.

Oversees shelter fundraising, including donor relations, sponsorship accrual, grant writing, third party event management, online fundraising campaigns, year-round campaigns, major in-kind gifts, and supervising two major events per year.

Organizes and leads programs and arrangements for special events.

Provides training and oversight to assigned staff and volunteers at shelter events and programs in coordination with the Volunteer & Foster Program Coordinator.

Prepares monthly statistical reports on community programs.

Attends weekly management meetings with other shelter administrative staff.

Performs other work and special projects as necessary.

Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and other fine motor repetitive motions.

Position involves lifting and carrying of animals and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objects.

Position involves hearing and / or seeing alert cues regarding animal and staff security.

Position involves maintaining composure in a high-stress environment.

Work tasks are conducted indoors and outdoors.

May work outside in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold and wet conditions.

Frequent handling of animals, including contact with waste and blood.

Exposure to unpleasant smells and a noisy and wet environment associated with a shelter.

Frequent exposure to animals that are agitated or injured that may attempt to bite or scratch.

Regular travel between work sites as required.

Position involves working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Position involves working with distressed individuals.

Work outside of regular shelter hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Essential personnel for emergency situations; at discretion of department director.

Regular attendance is required.

High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience interacting with the media and public community groups, agencies, citizens, and / or volunteer service programs.

Demonstrated skill with marketing techniques, fundraising, and social media management.

Strong written and oral communication, organizational and event planning skills.

Previous working experience with common software programs, such as Microsoft Office, and design / editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop and / or Illustrator.

Valid drivers license required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Bachelors degree in public relations, marketing, non-profit program administration, or a related field.

Previous experience in animal welfare, animal control, or veterinary.

Resource development experience, including fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, and philanthropy.

Bilingual (Spanish).
