Overview
Regional Project Specialist - Casting responsibilities include coordinating procurement and quality activities for the casting supplier network, implementing global supply chain strategies in the region, and driving industrialization and innovation with suppliers to meet program milestones and BMW quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Improve the robustness of the casting supplier network and shape nominations, while installing necessary capacities and competencies at suppliers.
- Coordinate the overall purchasing and quality management program (QMP) activities in the region, and provide regional input for CSCS / strategic information for headquarters.
- Implement Global Commodity Supply Chain Strategy in the region on behalf of KIDAT, considering cost, quality, flexibility and innovation.
- Provide efficient procurement and premium supplier quality in the region, including industrialization.
- Apply BMW Group quality standards to the regional supplier network and adhere to M guidelines, processes, and local legal requirements.
- Ensure timely communication between the region and headquarters.
- Prepare input for Global Supply Chain Strategy related to casting and lightweight technologies for release.
- Evaluate potential new casting suppliers and propose them for inclusion in the BMW AG Bieterkreis.
- Assess innovation potential for products and processes and feed back to BMW AG KIDAT / MA-4xx.
- Identify topics for escalation and coordinate with relevant counterparts.
- Oversee risk management for casting suppliers (e.g., fire, natural disasters).
- Coordinate industrialization projects for new and existing casting suppliers with their teams.
- Support decision-making at suppliers and within BMW on casting prerequisites to meet milestones and targets.
- Design, plan, steer and implement processes and measures for quality management of procured parts (QMT) for vehicle projects at casting suppliers.
- Industrialize capable manufacturing processes, including process series and initial sample approval.
- Report launch readiness across KIDAT to the vehicle project leader.
- Mandate with suppliers and BMW to ensure project prerequisites are in place on time.
- Provide innovation scouting for lightweight and new casting technologies, as well as developing new capable casting suppliers in the USMCA region (including Mexico).
- Relay this information to relevant BMW development departments to include new technologies in future vehicle projects.
- Develop and implement tools for analysis and problem solving between BMW and suppliers; troubleshoot critical supplier situations with these tools.
- Identify cost / weight reduction potentials based on technology and process.
- Enable local content increase focusing on high-value cast components and initiate cooperation with universities / technology partners for casting / additive manufacturing.
- Identify, agree, implement and monitor QMT targets and project milestones for procured cast parts and communicate status to management and project leads.
- Support department leaders with frequent comparisons of actual vs. planned data.
- Recommend courses of action across KIDAT or cross-process chains.
- Coach, consult, train, benchmark and develop network partners to improve supplier-, product- and process-quality.
- Communicate cost / weight reduction potentials to BMW AG purchasing and development for annual negotiations.
- Provide training to team members to support the organization's future vision.
- Understand and apply VPS (Value Added Production System), Standard Work, and Problem Solving.
- Adhere to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Automotive); OR AS degree in Engineering with the equivalent of 2 years of relevant experience in casting manufacturing or tool design; OR the equivalent of 4 years of relevant experience.5+ years of related engineering experience in product / production tooling and process engineering for casting components.3+ years of project leadership experience in OEM vehicle projects.5+ years of supplier development experience with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.5+ years of combined professional experience in automotive production, logistics, quality, factory planning, shop floor management, and international environments.5+ years of MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Access).5+ years of communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).3+ years of knowledge of Quality Management Tools.3+ years of knowledge of international team dynamics with the ability to present to international upper management.3+ years of negotiation experience.3+ years of knowledge of risk assessment and potential economic / technical impacts.Basic German and / or Spanish language skills (preferred).Benefits
