Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Psychiatric Unit, requiring at least 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience and a ME or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in a free-standing acute inpatient facility on the Psychiatric Unit for both pediatric and adult patientsPediatric patients are ages 5-18, adults are 18+ including geriatricCommon pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoriaAdult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxietyShifts are 12 hours, 7AM–7PM, with every other weekend required and no on-callFloating between pediatric and adult psychiatric units is requiredRN to patient ratios are 1 : 5-6 during the day, 1 : 13 at night with resource support and psych techs on shiftCerner is used for charting and Pyxis for medication managementPatient care includes both voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admissions who are medically clearedTraditional medical and psychiatric care provided along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy and group sessionsSeclusion rooms are used as needed for patient safetyOccasional care for substance use disorder or detox patients if medically clearedTeam support includes nurse supervisors, nurse managers, psych techs, contract phlebotomists, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and securityOrientation consists of one week of day shifts, followed by regular 12-hour shiftsHoliday coverage will be on a rotating basisAccepts first-time travelersScrubs must be any solid, professional colorHeavy snow conditions can be expected during winterRequirements
Active ME or compact RN license requiredMinimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience requiredBLS certification requiredPediatric behavioral health experience preferred; manager approval needed if not presentExperience with de-escalation, physical restraints (no chemical restraints), and medication passesComfortable leading group therapy sessions and completing documentationMust not have worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health HospitalMust reside 100+ miles South / Southwest of Bangor, ME to be considered for travel payFlu vaccination required for all assignments starting 9 / 30 / 2024 or later; only medical exemptions are consideredMOAB training is provided onsite during orientationBenefits
