Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Stepdown position requiring a WV or compact RN license and stepdown experience.

Responsibilities

Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 20-bed Stepdown / Med Surg unit

Patient ratios are 1 : 3 for Stepdown and 1 : 5-6 for Med Surg floor

Common patient diagnoses include respiratory issues, weakness, UTI, AKI, and chest pain

12-hour day shifts, with scheduling options of Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, 36 hours per week

Weekend coverage requires 3 shifts per 4-week schedule

Rotation for holiday shifts is required

No on-call or floating required

Use of EPIC EMR for all charting and documentation

RNs are expected to titrate IV drips including heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and amiodarone

Unit is staffed with 2 nurse aides per shift and a House Supervisor

Royal blue scrubs are required for this position

Unit-specific orientation is provided before starting work

Respiratory support equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow O2 are utilized on the unit

First-time travelers will be considered

Past employees of any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before returning as a traveler, with cumulative experience tracked

Travelers may not exceed one year of continuous work within WVU facilities and must then take a two-year break

Pass / fail EKG testing may be required for this assignment

Requirements

Active WV or compact RN license required

Minimum of 3 years of RN experience, with prior stepdown experience required

Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications are required

Experience with titrating drips such as heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and amiodarone

Driver’s license must be provided for consideration

Must live at least 50 miles from the facility; no local travelers allowed
