Description

The primary role of the Mechanic Lead is to diagnose and repair fleet and equipment and supervise the work of the mechanics and mechanic helpers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair power train, electrical, suspension, brake, hydraulic and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform on-road emergency service calls.
  • Maintain a complete inventory system through recording of all expenditures and income of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, fuel, repair parts, supplies, etc.
  • Implement and maintain a mechanic training and certification program to teach needed technical skills to mechanics and mechanic helpers.
  • Oversee shop procedures to ensure work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with fleet service purchases, including parts, tools, and shop supplies.
  • Examine reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; write reports on vehicles and equipment repaired.
  • Keep repair records; perform preventative maintenance on all company vehicles and order repair parts.
  • Check all repair work performed in shop for completeness.
  • Observe and comply with hazardous waste and material handling and disposal procedures and regulations as set forth by local, state and federal environmental and health agencies.
  • Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean, safe and organized work space.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers and communicate timeline for downed vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of :

  • Diesel and / or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components and parts.
  • Methods, tools, equipment and systems used in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Vehicle computer diagnostic systems and fleet management software.
  • Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices
  • Ability to :

  • Plan, organize and direct the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees engaged in repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with coworkers.
  • Proactively establish trust and credibility with coworkers by maintaining accountability.
  • Contribute to the team dynamic by promoting inclusion, support and collaboration amongst coworkers.
  • Take initiative, self-manage time and productivity through multitasking.
  • Effectively and concisely communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Think independently and creatively to problem solve.
  • Education, Training & Experience

    Six years of related experience servicing diesel engines required.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in the resource recovery industry a plus.
  • Certifications a plus.
  • Class B license a plus.
  • Must supply own tools.
