Job description

Job Description : Speech Therapist

Position Overview :

As a speech Therapist at a long-term care nursing facility, your role is to ensure the delivery of high-quality rehabilitative services to residents. You will be responsible for evaluating and implementing effective therapy programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting the overall well-being of residents. Your focus is on enhancing residents' mobility, functional abilities, and quality of life through evidence-based interventions in collaboration with other disciplines.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Department Leadership and Management :
  • Assist Director in developing the department, including setting department goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment with the IDT.
  • Manage department resources, including but not limited to adaptive equipment and devices.
  • Treatment Planning and Implementation :
  • Assess residents' speech, functional, and rehabilitative needs through screens, consultations and treatments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on residents' goals, medical conditions, and therapy assessments.
  • Implement evidence-based speech therapy interventions, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, gait training, and modalities.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
  • Team Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Care :
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for residents.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care meetings to discuss residents' progress, goals, and discharge planning.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Documentation :
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing speech therapy services in long-term care settings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of therapy assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Adhere to billing and coding guidelines, ensuring accurate and timely submission of therapy services as they pertain to the MDS.
  • Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement :
  • Assist with Implementation of quality assurance programs and performance improvement initiatives to monitor and enhance the quality of speech therapy services.
  • Collect and analyze data related to resident outcomes, therapy utilization, and patient satisfaction to drive improvement efforts.
  • Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in speech therapy to continuously enhance the effectiveness of therapy interventions.
  • Resident and Family Education :
  • Educate residents and their families about therapy goals, treatment plans, and home exercise programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents and families regarding adaptive equipment, mobility aids, and environmental modifications.
  • Staff Development and Training :
  • Provide ongoing education and training to staff to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge as they pertain to therapy related fields.
  • Support professional growth and development opportunities for speech therapy staff through continuing education and conferences as indicated.

Qualifications and Skills :

Speech Therapy Degree from an accredited program.

Current and valid state licensure as a speech Therapist.

Previous experience in a leadership or management role in a speech therapy department, preferably in a long-term care or rehabilitation setting.

In-depth knowledge of speech therapy principles, techniques, and modalities for geriatric and long-term care populations.

Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively lead a team and manage department operations.

Excellent clinical skills and the ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with residents, families, staff, and healthcare professionals.

Familiarity with regulatory requirements and documentation standards for speech therapy services.

Proficiency in computer skills and electronic medical record systems.

Pay : $47.00 - $55.00 per hour
