Overview
The Powertrain Systems Engineer will be responsible for design and release of coolant lines and high voltage cable assemblies. This role includes working with suppliers to select and source components such as coolant hoses, fittings, high voltage cables, connectors, abrasion protection and retention methods.
Responsibilities
- Design and release of coolant hose and / or tube assemblies.
- Design and release of high voltage cable assemblies.
- Collaborate with Thermal system technical specialist to identify system level requirements for coolant hose sizing.
- Select coolant hose and fitting types compatible with end components and system requirements.
- Collaborate with HV systems engineer to select cable size and mating connectors compatible with HV components.
- Route coolant line assemblies with proper bend radii and retention methods in coordination with CAD designers.
- Route HV cable assemblies with proper bend radius and retention methods in coordination with CAD designers.
- Identify and document assembly processes for high voltage cable assemblies and coolant lines.
- Work with 2D detailers to create drawings of cable assemblies and coolant lines including tolerancing.
- Coordinate with suppliers to conduct regular technical reviews of requirements and designs.
- Obtain preliminary quotes and support supplier selection; ensure on-time delivery plans once final suppliers are determined.
- Provide status updates and formal presentations to customers (written and verbal).
- Develop and execute DVP&R.
- Collaborate with CAE team to define and conduct FEA assessments.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.High mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of generic product development tasks from inception to production.Understanding of fundamental thermal fluid dynamics and electrical engineering.Ability to read and interpret technical prints and assembly instructions.Working knowledge of GD&T.Familiarity with dFMEA and DVP&R documents.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and in team settings while handling multiple assignments.Prior production Design and Release Engineering experience.Understanding of CAD modeling techniques to communicate design direction with the design team.Desirable experience
Understanding of manufacturing techniques for HV cable assemblies and cooling line assemblies including material selection and compatibilities.Connector crimping types and techniques.Hose and tube interface, sealing, and retention methodologies.Forming processes and geometric limitations.CAD modeling proficiency in Solid Works (preferred).Operational familiarity with Vis Mockup.Prior experience in heavy-duty commercial and / or railway industries.Seniority level
