Schedule : Night Shift, 7 : 00 PM – 7 : 30 AM, 3 shifts / week

Job Summary :

The Pediatric Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care to pediatric patients in a hospital setting, with a focus on Pediatric Cardiac ICU.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Patient Care

  • Provide patient-centered care using the Relationship Centered Care model and the nursing process.
  • Assess, evaluate, and manage pediatric patient care needs using critical thinking.
  • Deliver care integrating relevant pediatric assessment and intervention skills.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Prioritize care delivery including teaching, rounding, coaching, and post-discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers based on readiness to learn and care needs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing Care Model.
  • Patient Experience

  • Demonstrate Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care practices (Admission Welcome, Bedside Report, HELP, AM / PM Care, Purposeful Rounding, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap-Up).
  • Respect cultural diversity, patient preferences, and expressed needs.
  • Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Utilize evidence-based methods to understand and improve patient experience.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Show empathy, compassion, and active listening.
  • Support staff in applying evidence-based approaches to care.
  • Perform Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing the 4 Ps.
  • Quality and Safety

  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Apply essential clinical knowledge specific to pediatric critical care.
  • Support institutional quality improvement and patient safety efforts.
  • Participate in peer and institutional reviews.
  • Collaborate on quality initiatives and research.
  • Meet compliance and safety requirements.
  • Use high reliability practices to minimize risk.
  • Report safety hazards per institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice using EMR systems to support improvement efforts.
  • Required Skills :

  • Minimum 2 years pediatric cardiac ICU experience in a hospital setting
  • Proficiency in pediatric care standards and critical care procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and team communication skills
  • Physical and mental capacity to care for acutely ill pediatric patients
  • Manual dexterity for clinical procedures (e.g., venipuncture, catheterization)
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and data entry systems
  • Licensure & Certifications :

  • NYS RN License – Required
  • BLS – Required
  • ACLS – Required
  • PALS – Required
  • Education :

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • Additional Notes :

  • Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience required
  • Must be able to float within pediatric units if needed
  • Must meet all experience and certification requirements at time of submission
