Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assist breeding program in nursery and field trial design, planting, evaluation, and seed harvest.
  • Be a proficient user of the Breeding Operating Database (BOS).
  • Provide Sweet Corn Breeding Team support to Foundation Seed, Stock Seed, and Hybrid Production and take

up additional responsibilities in the absence of an on-site breeder as necessary.

  • Assist the Sweet Corn Breeding Team in the receipt and distribution of seeds for seed production and trialing.
  • Recruit, supervise, and work side-by-side with the seasonal / contract field crew in all aspects of seeding,
  • thinning, pollinating and seed harvest.

  • Active participation in company safety programs.
  • Required knowledge & Skills

  • Candidate must be an effective communicator both orally and in writing, possess a working knowledge of
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; experience with database applications helpful

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
  • Self-starting, independent, and capable of effective work in groups
  • Interested in a dynamic work environment where daily activity changes according to planting cycle. Able
  • to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected

    events.

  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Accept personal responsibility for task fulfillment and job
  • performance.

  • Spanish language skill is a plus.
  • Education & work experience required :

  • B.S. and 2-5 years’ experience or M.S. degree in plant-related science
  • Previous work with plants a plus.
  • Able to travel internationally and domestically as required for business up to 15 percent of the year
