The City of Oxnard's Environmental Resources Division is seeking an experienced Solid Waste Transfer Operator to join the team!
This role requires strong teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and support staff. You will work closely with team members to ensure smooth daily operations, share responsibilities, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
Ability to learn how to operate a landfill tipper for unloading trailers in compliance with site procedures and safety guidelines. Open communication, mutual support, and a cooperative attitude are essential to successfully achieving team goals and delivering high-quality service. Follows safe driving practices while operating a large tractor / trailer on public highways and roads. Cleans, maintains, and inspects assigned vehicles; performs servicing tasks such as checking and refilling gasoline, oil, and water, inspecting brake systems; weighs the truck and keeps an accurate daily truck log. Collects and maintains weigh tags from landfill weighmasters; maintains other records as required. Drive trucks with a swept trailer, and clean windows and mirrors. Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and / or procedures. Can show full control and knowledge of the vehicle and shifting of nine or ten-speed manual transmission. Can pass a road test given from pre-tip, driving, shifting, backing, road control, parking, and post-trip.
Payroll Title / Classification : Maintenance Specialist
This class is the fourth level in a seven-level Maintenance and Operations Series devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, equipment, facilities and infrastructure and providing parks, solid waste and recycling services and programs through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Incumbents provide skilled maintenance and repair activities. As assigned, work may include maintenance and repair including preventative and corrective maintenance; equipment installation and troubleshooting; estimating material and supply needs; obtaining quotes for services and supplies; coordinating with contractors and vendors; operation of a variety of equipment; and following all safety policies and procedures.
Distinguishing Characteristics : This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician, Senior in that it performs both skilled maintenance and skilled repair work and provides troubleshooting of equipment issues. Supervision Received / Exercised : Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines. Work Schedule : The normal work days vary from Monday through Saturday, with work hours from 5 : 00 am to 3 : 30 pm or 6 : 00 am to 4 : 30 pm, depending on shift assigned. Shifts are worked on a four day, ten hour schedule with two consecutive days off. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. Work hours and shift are subject to change based on operational needs. May be required to work holidays. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
Essential Functions : Performs skilled maintenance and repair work in assigned trade and / or area; plans, prioritizes and schedules activities to complete repairs and maintenance work in efficient and timely manner; selects proper tools and equipment for assignment; monitors work site safety; performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations. Performs maintenance inspections; troubleshoots equipment, maintenance and / or system issues; identifies repair needs; reviews repair versus replacement costs and makes recommendations; performs required repairs or works with outside contractors for project completion. Organizes and maintains assigned equipment and tools; inspects, cleans and performs preventative maintenance to ensure operability and reliability of equipment and tools. Review equipment and materials required for daily maintenance and work projects; initiates request for or purchases approved materials and supplies. Prepares and / or maintains activity records, logs, work orders, material requests, reports and / or technical documentation for equipment or building systems. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications : The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification : Education : High School Diploma or GED. Experience : Four (4) years of equipment operation / driving experience or formal trades experience in one or more areas related to assignment. Licensing / Certifications : Valid non-restricted California Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record with air brakes and trailer endorsement.
