Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by assuring compliance with lead-related construction requirements and providing lead-related construction enforcement expertise to local Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs.

The incumbent works under the Environmental Program Manager (EPM) I (Supervisory), Chief of the Lead Hazard Reduction Section.

The Environmental Scientist (ES) serve as a member of the Enforcement and Compliance Team to perform a variety of responsible scientific professional office and field work.

The ES supports, builds capacity of, and assesses enforcement performance for lead-related construction requirements by the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB) as well as local childhood lead poisoning prevention programs (CLPPPs) that provide services under contract to the CLPPB.

Conducts in-office investigations, inspections, and enforcement cases. Provide technical support and guidance to local agencies regarding lead hazard evaluation and education of sources of lead exposure to children and families.

The ES should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and be able to utilize the Internet to research Federal and State statutes, codes, regulations, and related information.

The ES should have excellent written and public speaking skills.
