SUMMARY
Food Runners play a crucial role in delivering a seamless, elevated dining experience by ensuring dishes reach guests quickly, accurately, and beautifully presented. They serve as the communication bridge between the kitchen and the dining room, supporting servers, maintaining table standards, and protecting the flow of service.
This position requires a sharp eye for detail, strong awareness of timing, and the ability to work with urgency while maintaining a warm and professional demeanor.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Execution
Deliver dishes to tables promptly, correctly identifying seat numbers and ensuring accuracy.Maintain integrity of plating when transporting, holding, and presenting dishes.Describe dishes briefly and accurately when appropriate.Support servers by marking tables, clearing plates, refilling water, and resetting tables as needed.Monitor pacing of service and communicate effectively with the kitchen and service teams.Coordination & Communication
Serve as the liaison between chefs and FOH, communicating any changes, allergies, modifications, or delays.Assist with expo when needed : organizing plates, reading tickets, calling orders, and coordinating courses.Communicate guest needs, requests, and issues clearly and promptly.Work collaboratively with servers, bartenders, hosts, and BOH teams to maintain smooth service.Cleanliness & Organization
Keep service stations stocked, clean, and organized throughout the shift.Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen pass, expo line, and surrounding areas.Assist with polishing glassware, flatware, and plates during slower periods.Support end-of-shift closing duties including restocking, sweeping, wiping, and organizing.Guest Care
Anticipate needs by keeping an eye on tables for water refills, additional utensils, and clearing opportunities.Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests.Maintain a warm and positive presence while moving through the dining room.Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for extended periods (8–10 hours).Lift and carry trays and items up to 30 lbs.Move quickly and safely in a fast-paced environment.Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.QUALIFICATIONS
1 year of experience in a high-volume or full-service restaurant preferred, but not required.
Strong communication skills and the ability to multitask under pressure.Ability to learn menu items, ingredients, and allergens quickly.Professional appearance, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.Alignment with Ama’s values of equity, sustainability, community, and hospitality.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly Rate
Tipped position, paid in accordance with Massachusetts Tip Law and the restaurant’s payroll schedule.
Paid Time Off
One (1) week (40 hours) of paid sick time per year.Additional Benefits
