Commodity Sourcing Leader
The Commodity Sourcing Leader will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company goals. In this role, you will negotiate with dedicated supplier partners according to specific policies. Achieve the best contractual conditions while also ensuring internal customer satisfaction. In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. You will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area of expertise, be involved in long term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.
Roles and responsibilities include managing a global spend of over $30M on fluid components commodity (valves, pumps, heat exchangers, filters, etc.) and developing / managing sourcing strategy for the assigned commodity to achieve variable cost productivity, cash flow, and controllership goals with SQDC mindset. Steer / support the global supplier selection, qualification, development, and overall supplier management, including managing the entire contract life cycle. Minimize GEV risk exposure by working closely with Projects and Contracts teams to ensure customer flow downs & our standard terms and conditions are pass-through to suppliers. Drive strategy development with the tactical execution necessary to execute cost reduction, lead time reduction, defect reduction projects through contract negotiation, process changes. Develop technical and market expertise in global commodity area. Leverage Lean and Six Sigma tools to drive process improvements and waste elimination. Interface with other GE business sourcing teams and participate in companywide strategic sourcing initiatives. Team with engineering teams to identify and implement direct material productivity ideas to minimize total cost. Work closely with engineering, buyers, and sourcing quality engineers to ensure fulfillment and quality requirements are achieved. In the event of non-conformances, hold supplier accountable by recovering cost of poor quality claim. Support RCA and CAPA partnering with SQE team. Team with logistics and commercial teams to ensure adequate regional capacities exist to minimize transportation costs and meet localization requirements. Aligning closely with cross functional leaders to identify and assess supplier capabilities, and measure and manage supplier performance. Hold supplier accountable for late deliveries and recover liquidated damages. Partner with fulfillment team to drive lead time reduction, capacity enhancement, expedite deliveries, remove bottlenecks to improve on-time delivery performance of the supplier.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, minimum of 10 years of commercial experience in sourcing, supply chain, and / or engineering, prior sourcing experience in negotiating, identifying opportunities, selecting suppliers, sourcing strategy, and implementing contracts (T&Cs negotiations), and prior experience working in a complex global matrixed organization.
Desired characteristics include a master's degree in business administration (MBA), prior GE leadership program experience, such as OMLP, FMP, CAS. Strong quantitative and data research skills to perform spend analytics, DMAIC problem solving and identify cost-out opportunities. Strong project management and process improvement skills. Change agent with ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Strong oral and written communication skills to present complex technical and commercial topics with clear, concise and effective messaging to stakeholders and senior leadership teams. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to challenge the status quo and collaborate with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement. Strong problem solving skills with objective, factual and data driven approach. Driving ideation to action plan, breaking down strategic ideas into tactical action plan and driving closure with sense of urgency.
