Position Purpose : Sports officials will officiate Adult Basketball Mens or Womens League games to maintain standards of play for applicable competitions facilitated through the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD). These leagues run February through April.

Job Duties

• Officiate MPRD adult basketball games.
• Attend sport-specific trainings and meetings.
• Make judgements and instruct players on the rules of the game.
• Provide communication to and from coaches and participants.
• Inspect sporting equipment and / or examine participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
• Work with supervisory staff to ensure accurate setup of the playing surface.
• Maintain a safe and positive playing environment communicating principles of good sportsmanship
• Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with other employeesdepartment personnel and the public (participants parents etc.).
• Notify instruct and correct spectator / participant behavior that is deemed inconsistent with athletic facility rules in a fair timely and respectful manner.
• Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy that reflects the MPRDs mission.
• Assist supervisors as needed by helping with tear-down at the end of the game (equipment etc.)
• Performs other duties as assigned.
