Description
This full-time, contract Electrical Engineer position will be performing the testing and energization of communications and control equipment in high voltage electrical substations, radio stations, and control centers, as well as recommending modifications and additions to existing installations throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
Responsibilities Include :
- Under the guidance of a commissioning engineer or technician, perform testing of substation equipment, primarily power circuit breakers, transformers, and static capacitors.
- Conduct verification of CT / PT ratio, CT polarity, transformer impedance, power factor for transformers, timing of power circuit breakers, and insulation voltage withstand tests.
- Perform testing of Substation Control equipment including Protective Relaying, SCADA, microwave radio, Transfer Trip, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems by checking rack wiring and cables.
- Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
- Gather information to create electrical drawings, reports, and calculations to support engineering solutions for electrical systems.
- Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to maintain compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish construction and installation standards and specifications.
- Inspect completed installations and verify operations to maintain conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and provide on-site technical support to craft / customer personnel in the field.
- Collaborate with design staff during the engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field information / valid requirements.
- Apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles / practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
- Facilitate projects on site, including requesting outages through outage coordinator and verifying that materials arrive on site.
Travel : Up to 100% to substations across the service territory (primarily WA / OR / ID / MT). Duration at each location could range from 2 weeks to 2 years, depending on the project.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Required Education & Experience :
Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET-accredited college / university in electrical engineering or a closely related engineering field.Minimum of 3 months of electrical engineering experience in design or analysis. College or charitable / voluntary engineering projects may be counted toward this experience.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Preferred Skills & Experience :
Experience using PLS-CADD, Bentley ProjectWise, and Microsoft SharePoint.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $44.00 / hr.
