Compensation Range : $65000 - $75000 yearly commensurate with experience

Overview :

The Child Development Specialist (CDS) works closely with families in their homes and the office helping to ensure housing stability by promoting independent living skills financial management and health and wellness. The CDS will work directly with the children of young families housed in the program to ensure that they achieve age-appropriate developmental collaboration with the parents the CDS will assist families with childcare techniques and provide psychoeducational resources and community referrals to support a healthy family environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Complete needs assessments and child developmental milestone assessments every six months.
  • Conduct follow-up visits with families every three months.
  • Co-facilitate at least four educational workshops annually based on client needs.

Workshops may include internal or external providers such as Housing Works medical staff early intervention specialists FDNY or the American Red Cross.

  • Increase client participation by 20% in program events such as advocacy sessions Narcan trainings community meetings holiday events and field trips during FY 26 and maintain success annually.
  • Manages and maintains a caseload of 30 formerly homeless young adults and their children.
  • Assists families in managing crises.
  • Attends and incorporates training on the Evidence-Based Practices Framework into program interventions.
  • Participates in new client interviews.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance Review of Charts.
  • Co-facilitate groups including Parenting Journey Groups Collaborates with parents to assist families with childcare techniques as well as provide psychoeducational resources and community referrals to ensure a healthy and stable family.
  • Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team plans and coordinates case conferences assesses the service needs of each resident formulates and implements discharge plans and provides required aftercare services.
  • Meet with supervisor for bi-weekly individual supervision.
  • Assist clients with school enrollment and referrals including early intervention services.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure evaluations are completed and that children are receiving recommended services.
  • Coordinate with clients and Housing Case Managers regarding ACS (Administration for Childrens Services) cases and provide support throughout the case as needed.
  • Input progress notes in a timely manner.
  • Maintain family trackers including assessments family composition and other relevant data.
  • Complete prenatal and postnatal follow-up assessments
  • Collaborates with Program Coordinator in planning holiday events and family activities including field trips.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Enthusiastically take part in advocacy and direct actions to end the twin crises of homelessness and HIV / AIDS.
  • Minimum Requirements

  • An LMSW a masters degree in psychology or early childhood education and a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a social services setting working with children families experiencing homelessness mental health issues and / or substance use is required.
