Design Engineer
Kress is looking for a full time Design Engineer to join our team in the development of specialized industrial equipment for steel, construction, and mining industries.
The Design Engineer will provide coordination and complete simple to moderately complex design projects to satisfy customers and / or engineering orders. Provide technical information and assistance for colleagues and other departments.
Responsibilities -
- Receive written or verbal assignments from management or designated Project Engineering
- Manager for development of new products or expansion of current product line and prepare technical objectives and specifications
- Review instructions and information received and perform necessary design and development studies to determine best approach to the design
- Make basic layouts and designs for the project and refer to Designers and Detailers for completion
- Follow Engineering guidelines and standards to complete new designs
- Utilize existing common components and groups on projects where possible to reduce amount of new content; reduce cost and risk on projects
- Make calculations to determine soundness and safety of design
- Select proper materials, heat treatment, and surface treatment of components as necessary
- Select vendor components as required for the design
- Keep management informed of progress of projects and problems encountered, initiate design reviews and make changes where necessary
- Maintain and create permanent record of projects including design calculations, vendor information, performance evaluations and other documentation of the project
- Assist in software preparation and documentation
- Perform all duties of a senior designer or designer as necessary
Assistance and Support -
Provide necessary information to appropriate Shop Supervisor when problems are encountered due to engineering of productWork with Manufacturing and Engineers with regard to design and manufacturing details to arrive at the most economical way of manufacturing the various component partsCheck completed work of various pieces designed within the Engineering GroupMaintain contact with Purchasing regarding components needed, specifications, quality, cost and availabilityAssist in preparation of Engineering data required for salesProvide engineering assistance to Marketing & Product Support personnel and CustomersOccasionally meet with Vendors regarding components, price, availability, (travel may berequired)Overseeing work of Designers and Detailers to complete projectsQualifications -
4-year Mechanical Engineering Degree2-3 years Design experience in Manufacturing or Heavy Equipment Industry preferableIntermediate understanding of computer aided design systemsIntermediate understanding of Microsoft OfficeIntermediate understanding of lnfor XAIntermediate understanding of dimensioning and tolerancingIntermediate mathematic skillsKress Benefits -
