Position Objective / Description :

The Survey Rodman will be responsible for supporting Surveyors and surveying crews during the measurement of land and grade.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Visit work / construction sites for land measurements.

Using basic mathematics and reading numerals.

Provide accurate survey rod readings on the request and direction of surveyor.

Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises, etc.

Keep company vehicle, tools and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns.

Comply with all company policies, procedures and safety requirements.

Perform any other general duties as specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

2 years’ experience assisting in surveying procedures, operations and providing survey rod readings.

High school diploma / GED preferred.

Maintain a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record by complying with standards established by SBCC policy.

Must have the ability to stand, crawl and kneel for long periods of time

Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.

Physical Demands :

Constant physical effort, including extended sitting for at least 8 hour shift

Intermittent standing and walking

Climb intermittently

Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties

Occasionally reach above shoulder level

May lift and carry small objects under 20 pounds on a regular basis

Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness

Able to hear and respond to oral instructions

Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach and grasp

Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.

Good vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Work may require site visits and / or trips to jobsites.

Work is predominately indoors within a usually quiet to moderately noisy environment. Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure situations.  Considerable amount of time is spent working / sitting in front of computer.   Generally work regular business hours, however they will also be expected to work overtime to meet project deadlines.
