The Head of Sales has the primary responsibility of defining and driving the delivery of the organization’s overall sales and revenue targets through the sales team. This is only possible through coordinating internal and external stakeholders and creating an environment where the sales team can build long‑lasting relationships with their customers. This role is suitable for an individual who has a passion for delivering through teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Through strategy formation, responsible for senior‑level decision‑making, developing, planning and implementing sales strategies that align with the company’s short and long‑term strategies.
  • Grow sales volume by critically analysing sales performance and preparing periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion.
  • Define and manage sales KPIs, forecasts, plans, as well as budgets in line with the overall company strategy.
  • Assess routes to market, develop a strategic approach to selling efforts, and implement new approaches in congruence with the organization’s sales KPIs, planning result‑oriented selling activities with Sales Team Leaders and Sales Agents.
  • Conduct research and identify areas of improvement in the sales strategies to establish actionable insights that will boost sales and increase profitability.
  • Identify and monitor new market trends ahead of the curve, offering the business a competitive advantage.
  • Drive retention initiatives for the sales team while building future pipeline for top performers by differentiating performers through goal setting and management.
  • Develop and strengthen the distribution channel by recruiting and establishing agro farmers as key retail partners to generate quality leads and convert them into actual sales.
  • Lead recruitment, training, and retention of Field Sales Agents (FSAs), ensuring their productivity aligns with company targets.
  • Drive customer traffic across all service centres in Uganda by implementing effective strategies to achieve the set OKRs.
  • Develop and execute market segmentation strategies to ensure tailored sales approaches for each segment, maximizing performance and coverage.
  • Design and manage effective sales incentives and commission structures to motivate teams and accelerate sales growth.

Team Management and Leadership

  • Act as an ambassador for the organizational culture and values, leading by example and transferring best practices to team members.
  • Attain sales growth by leading, mentoring, and inspiring the national sales team, including Regional Sales Managers, Sales Team Leads, Service Centre Associates, and FSAs to drive retention, enhance productivity, and achieve sustainable market expansion.
  • Monitor career growth and development of the sales team, encouraging internal promotion, mentorship and coaching.
  • Diagnose core performance challenges through data analytics and provide timely solutions.
  • Develop Regional Sales Managers and Sales Team Leads to recognise success and support team members who are struggling.
  • Maintain an ‘ownership mentality’ of the sales team by ensuring responsible spending habits and vetting receipts for reimbursement.
  • Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the training manager to identify training gaps, ensuring regular training equips the team with relevant skills.
  • Liaise with HR to recruit top talent and retain talent with incentive structures that boost morale and productivity.
  • Work with the marketing manager to align marketing initiatives with sales and lead generation.
  • Collaborate with all teams to understand timelines of new product launches and tailor unique strategies.
  • Work with relevant teams to obtain data and information, translating it into actionable strategies that drive sales.
  • Partner with senior management to achieve revenue goals.
  • Provide periodic reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and future expansion plans.
  • Requirements

  • Over 8 years professional experience with a minimum of 5 years in Sales Management in the off‑grid sector.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership position in sales, managing large teams with high revenues at a country or regional level.
  • Work experience in startups and have built a sales team from scratch, leading a sales function with multiple sales channels.
  • Proven self‑starter who works well with autonomy and can ask for help without hesitation.
  • Willing to recognise and own mistakes to learn and develop as a leader.
  • Manager who encourages others to take ownership of their work in good and bad circumstances.
  • Proven experience delivering sales targets through high‑performance teams.
  • Passionate about developing team capability through mentorship and coaching.
  • Experience developing managers to upskill their teams and support efforts.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and experience working in a dynamic, evolving environment.
