Schedule :

Day Shift : 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 30 PM | 8 : 00 AM – 4 : 30 PM | 10 : 00 AM – 6 : 30 PM

Evening Shift : 3 : 00 PM – 11 : 30 PM

Both day and evening full-time positions available

Dress Code : Black Scrubs

Parking : Employee lots located behind the hospital

Position Summary :

The Environmental Services Transporter is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients throughout Christiana Hospital . This role supports patient care by ensuring timely, professional, and compassionate transport services, while also maintaining cleanliness and readiness of transport equipment.

Key Responsibilities :

Safely transport patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, or specialized vehicles to and from clinical and patient care areas as directed by dispatch or scheduling staff.

Assist clinical personnel with patient transfers to and from transport vehicles, ensuring comfort and safety.

Clean, maintain, and inspect departmental transport equipment to ensure proper working condition.

Respond promptly to transport and equipment requests while maintaining effective communication with nursing and clinical teams.

Adhere to infection control and safety standards, reporting any hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents to supervisors immediately.

Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and required educational programs.

Uphold the hospital's values of compassion, respect, and patient-centered service during all interactions.

Education and Experience Requirements :

Education : High school diploma preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Experience : Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience , preferably in a healthcare or service environment.

Certification : Must be able to obtain BLS certification upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of hospital departments and facility layout.

Understanding of basic body mechanics and patient handling techniques.

Ability to use smartphones and basic computer applications (email, timekeeping, web-based training).

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Ability to walk or stand for long periods and push / pull heavy equipment safely.

Professional demeanor with strong attention to confidentiality and patient care.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively in a team setting.

Physical Demands :

Continuous : Standing, walking, pushing / pulling, and repetitive motion of fingers, hands, and wrists (often involving considerable weight).

Intermittent : Bending, crouching, lifting, and lowering heavy loads.

Working Conditions :

Frequent handwashing required.

Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.

Must maintain a high level of personal hygiene and adhere to hospital infection control policies.
