Position Summary
The Kitting supports efficient production by preparing accurate kits of materials and components, ensuring timely delivery to work centers, and proactively resolving material shortages or delays. This role works closely with Fabrication, Machining, Inventory, and Purchasing teams to keep jobs on schedule and support a safe, organized workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret Bills of Materials (BOM), Bills of Lading (BOL), and blueprints for each production job
- Pre-kit all fabrication and machining jobs with correct parts, hardware, and documentation
- Spot-check critical dimensions on “burn-out” and cut parts according to prints
- Cut, grind, bevel, and properly mark raw materials per job specifications
- Receive incoming parts and verify accuracy to prints and order requirements
- Perform material transactions and maintain accurate inventory tracking
- Perform weekly inventory counts on key materials and report discrepancies
- Maintain clean, labeled, and organized kitting areas and point-of-use storage
- Complete daily pre-operation checklists on forklifts and loaders
- Safely operate and maintain fabrication equipment including :
Horizontal steel-cutting band saw
Hand & bench grindersPneumatic bevel cutterIronworker punch press and drill pressOperate forklift, jib crane, and overhead gantry crane for material movementTrack priority jobs and ensure material availability based on production scheduleDeliver kits to workstations and follow up on missing or late componentsCommunicate status of shortages, delays, and substitutions to leads / supervisorsWork cross-functionally with purchasing, warehouse, and production to resolve issues quicklyAssist shipping, receiving, and warehouse departments when neededUpdate production boards or systems with accurate job progress informationMaintain strong sense of urgency and proactive problem-solving regarding material flowQualifications
1–2 years’ experience in warehouse, kitting, or production support (preferred)Ability to read blueprints and BOMsExperience operating material-handling equipment; certifications a plusBasic computer and ERP / MRP system skillsStrong communication, organization, and attention to detailMechanical aptitude with willingness to learn additional fabrication skillsPhysical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and move materials throughout the shiftLift up to 50 lbs with or without assistanceWork in a shop environment with noise, steel, heat, and varying temperaturesUse of PPE such as gloves, glasses, and hearing protection requiredShift & Work Hours :
