Senior Data Engineer & Visualization Specialist - Television News & Politics

Compensation $150,000 - $185,000 annually
We are a leading broadcast news organization in New York City seeking a Senior Data Engineer & Visualization Specialist to strengthen our data-driven coverage of politics, elections, and the economy. This is a high-visibility role where your work directly supports breaking news, live broadcasts, and the analysis millions of viewers rely on each day.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain pipelines to collect real-time polling and economic data from APIs and public sources with accuracy and integrity
- Design and manage relational databases (PostgreSQL / MySQL) that normalize and organize complex datasets for newsroom use
- Develop custom tools and dashboards with Django, Flask, or React to support editorial teams, producers, editors, and executives
- Create automated, interactive graphics and visualizations with Plotly, Matplotlib, or Power BI to highlight polling trends, election results, and key economic indicators
- Implement real-time workflows and alerts that surface new data and keep the newsroom ahead of developing stories
- Collaborate with editorial and operations teams to ensure data products align with fast-moving coverage needs
Qualifications
5-7 years of professional experience with Python, SQL, and API-driven data collectionStrong track record building clean, scalable pipelines and databasesExperience developing dashboards and applications that support newsroom or enterprise-scale operationsFamiliarity with visualization libraries and business intelligence toolsStrong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated interest in politics, economics, and data-driven journalism
