Job description

Overview

The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for four (4) full-time non-tenure track positions at the rank of Lecturer II (M.S. degree required) or Teaching Assistant Professor (Ph.D. degree required).

The positions begin on July 1, 2026. The roles support the teaching of core mathematics and statistics classes required for all undergraduate students. Duties include teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics and / or statistics courses in small and large sections (including co-requisite courses), supervising and mentoring teaching assistants, holding office hours, developing syllabi, creating assignments, writing exams, maintaining a Learning Management System presence (e.g., Canvas) and an online homework system presence (e.g., Cengage and Pearson), and performing department, college, and university service. Research is not expected for these positions.

The University of Nevada, Reno reserves the right to hire at any level of Lecturer (I–II) or Teaching Assistant / Teaching Associate Professor (terminal degree candidates) that is appropriate for the hire. If you have questions about title, please inquire during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate mathematics and / or statistics courses in both small and large sections, including co-requisite classes.
  • Supervise and mentor teaching assistants; hold office hours; develop syllabi; create assignments; write exams.
  • Maintain a presence in Learning Management System and online homework platforms (e.g., Canvas, Cengage, Pearson).
  • Perform department, college, and university service as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the department chair as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Lecturer II – M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field; experience teaching lower-division mathematics or statistics courses at the university level.
  • Teaching Assistant Professor – Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field; experience teaching lower-division mathematics or statistics courses at the university level.
  • Candidates will be hired to the appropriate level based on education and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. by August 14, 2026, and a demonstrated ability to teach lower-level mathematics courses.

  • Compensation Grade
  • Teaching Assistant Professor, 9-month.
