Position Summary

The Rice University Police Department is seeking to hire highly visible and professional Security Specialists to provide dedicated security presence at the private residence of a senior university official. This role is focused on acting as a strong deterrent to unauthorized activity through vigilant monitoring, proactive engagement with the environment and consistent patrols of the property. The specialist will maintain a commanding presence, ensure the safety of the property and its occupants, and coordinate with university and local law enforcement as needed, while upholding the highest standards of discretion and integrity.

Workplace Requirements Must be able to stand, walk, and walk up and down stairs, and occasionally lifts boxes up to 20 pounds. This position will be a uniformed position, will carry an RUPD radio and will report to RUPD.

Working hour expectations : Shifts will be 12hrs. Shifts will be either 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM. Shifts are 3 days on, 4 days off and then 4 days on, 3 days off. There will be casual overtime.

On campus position : This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on the Rice University Campus during any assigned shift to include evening, nights, weekends, and holidays. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change. This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.

Hiring Range : $17.50 / Hour Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime. This position is a one-year, term-limited appointment, with the possibility of extension contingent upon continued funding and organizational needs.
