This is a 100% in-office role based at our Rochester, NY location. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position. Candidates must be able to work on-site five days per week during designated work hours.

Position Overview

The Director of Retirement Services Ops provides both strategic and day-to-day leadership to Paylocity’s Retirement Services teams, aligning departmental vision and structure with broader company and operational goals. This role is accountable for translating Paylocity’s objectives into actionable strategies within the Retirement Services function, ensuring effective management controls, processes, and team direction.

The Director is responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive sustainable revenue growth and maximize client retention. This role leverages data-driven insights and cross-functional collaboration to identify opportunities for expanding market share, optimizing operational efficiency, and enhancing the customer experience. The Director leads efforts to align teams around key performance metrics, proactively addresses controllable losses, and implements best practices to reduce churn. By fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, the Director ensures that operational initiatives support both top-line growth and long-term client loyalty.

The Director will oversee teams responsible for plan implementation, operations, Sponsor / Participant support, driving continuous improvement and client satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing, developing, planning, and guiding strategic initiatives of all retirement operations, including implementation, compliance, and plan administration
  • Responsible for capturing data and working with our systems development teams to build the capabilities needed to support our customers well, allow for positive and efficient support experiences, and drive additional market opportunities.
  • Responsible for personnel staffing, morale, measurement, and employee development
  • Responsible for evaluating processes involving internal and external partners and working with those partners to improve them.
  • Make recommendations and contribute to the design and implementation of new product functionality and additional service offerings.
  • Drive an atmosphere of accountability that delegates work items, partners with other areas of the business and liaisons with action owners to ensure successful and timely completion of projects
  • The Director may handle service delivery escalations that require senior management intervention to remedy any service failures.
  • Ensure all internal audit and compliance requirements are met. Oversee leaders that serve as point people for internal audit and compliance requests.
  • Responsible for effective communication between all internal and external partners.
  • Responsible for development of KPIs and reporting over the KPIs to senior management.
  • Responsible for leading the team to achieve productivity and financial targets while being accountable to the approved fiscal budget.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7-10 years senior leadership experience in retirement plan administration, implementation, or operations required
  • Broad and deep knowledge of 401(k) and other qualified plan types.
  • Deep knowledge of ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations.
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships which introduce win-win solutions across departments and with clients.
  • Proven success of management concepts and practices including supervising and motivating employees, performance management and employee development / training.
  • Experience developing and driving adoption of cross departmental processes
  • Experience working with payroll and / or HR data
  • Demonstrated use of a Process Improvement methodology is required.
  • Extensive experience with a multi-customer product required.
  • Strong communication skills with external parties required
  • Physical requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods : The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
  • Use of computer and phone systems : The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

    The base pay range for this position is $175,000 - $200,000 / yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
