MISSION STATMENT

The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

Simulation Technician opportunity in the TIPS Education Center. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience. Experience in a healthcare simulation setting, medical clinical theater, emergency medical services (EMS), emergency medical technicians (EMT), or related field is preferred.

Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is a plus.

Shift: Typically, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm; may vary based on business needs

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, set up, and operate simulation spaces and resources at MDACC campus and HAL's for hands-on (medical and education technologies, animal, and cadaveric models) involvement in education labs and simulations.
  • Provide direct technical support for medical and computer-based technologies, including simulators, manikins, cameras, monitors, imaging devices, and projectors.
  • Conduct skills/training labs and manage simulation technologies, involving programming, testing, troubleshooting, and collaboration with content experts and faculty.
  • Stays updated on simulation equipment and manuals.
  • Evaluates new equipment for improvement and integration opportunities, providing purchase recommendations based on usage.
  • Conducts routine maintenance, troubleshoots simulation equipment, and collaborates with IT/IS/vendors.
  • Manages simulation center supplies and facilities.
  • Ensures compliance with rules and procedures, reporting concerns.
  • Communicates with leadership, provides necessary reports, and maintains data entry.
  • Acts as a simulation subject matter expert, aiding in needs assessments, competency evaluations, and feedback to enhance simulation quality.
  • Manage interdisciplinary simulation initiatives to improve clinical performance, organizational learning, patient safety, and quality care.
  • Demonstrate and teach technical aspects of operating simulators to facilitators and instructors.
  • Facilitate, brief, debrief, work as a standardized participant, and instruct for courses as requested.
  • Supports the development of high-fidelity medical simulations and immersive environments for medical training alongside the Simulation Supervisor and Education Team.
  • Assist in the orientation of students, faculty, staff, and clients to the Simulation Center.
  • Supports collaborative research and certification projects as requested, including assisting faculty with educational presentations such as poster printing and conference workshops.
  • Attend seminars, conferences, in-service trainings, and staff meetings, as required.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Performs additional related tasks as required

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate's degree, Respiratory Therapy, Biomedical Technology/Electronics, Theater/Performing Arts, Game Design/Technology, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years of related experience. With preferred degree no experience required.
