The Managing Director II leads large-scale teams in Tech & Healthcare Banking, focusing on acquiring, growing, and managing client and ecosystem relationships. This strategic role requires :
Deep industry expertise in the Healthcare sectors, including Biopharma, Healthtech, Medial Devices, AI, Healthcare Services and Diagnostics / Tools. Strong leadership skills to develop and coach teams, including managers of managers and senior-level sales leaders. Ability to drive strategic discussions with clients and stakeholders on capital solutions and business goals. Expertise in financing high-growth companies and managing complex, cross-functional relationships.
This Managing Director II role is responsible for managing and enhancing the client experience for highly complex clients within the Technology & Healthcare Banking sector. The position will focus on deepening relationships with C-Suite executives, particularly Founders, CEOs, and CFOs, while also overseeing a complex portfolio of clients, prospects, and influential market relationships. Key responsibilities include new business development, deepening of existing relationships, and the origination, advising, and negotiation of financing solutions for Commercial Bank clients. This includes cross-selling the entire product platform, from treasury management to debt financing and private banking services, addressing both business and personal client needs.
The primary responsibility is to drive client acquisition and growth by positioning and delivering SVB’s value proposition to clients and prospects. The Managing Director will directly manage and develop key channel and Venture Capital partnerships while being a highly visible ambassador for SVB in the market(s) being covered. The MD works closely with Portfolio Managers to collectively convert prospects into clients, as well as supporting Portfolio Managers by delivering market insights and value beyond banking to their clients and collaboration to provide a best-in-class client experience. The position is designed to primarily deal directly with founders and funders and future founders. While this role has a significant amount of in-market activity, there also exists administrative and analytical activities to help guide the actions and strategies of the overall business, particularly with respect to optimizing channel partner relationships and overall market share. Deliver founder success through lead conversion, customer connections, and value.
The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking leader capable of positioning the platform for changing business conditions and driving growth initiatives within the Healthcare ecosystem. They will play a key role in talent development, cross-functional projects, and maintaining a visible market presence. They will be active in the Life Science / Healthcare industry segments and committed to active participation in the Venture Capital and startup community. Comfortable building long-term, sales-oriented relationships, and managing partnerships. Individual can build and maintain investor relationships, devise strategies for developing new business, and collaborate well across teams.
Skilled in new business development, relationship expansion, and negotiating financing solutions for SVB Commercial Bank clients.
The role ensures risk management frameworks are in place across their assigned sectors, anticipates and addresses emerging industry risks, and maintains alignment with corporate strategy, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Managing Director collaborates closely with senior leadership and senior stakeholders to set the tone for risk management across their entire portfolio.

Position-Specific Skills :
Underwriting & Commercial Banking cross selling : Excellent Relationship Management and Credit skills to manage diverse team and full suite of portfolio needs; proven ability to ask strategic questions that get at the core of the issue or making a complicated situation understandable. Will focus on both lending and non-lending products and services.
Sector expertise : Experienced internal and external business leader; proven ability to maintain an extensive network of business relationships, including the executive management of clients, prospects, referral sources, and other influential relationships in market.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Commercial banking, Credit Underwriting or Analysis, or Relationship Management.
Preferred Qualifications :
The base pay for this position is generally between $233,700-$404,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and / or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
