We are seeking a leader to manage the Power, Recovery and Caustic Plant operations at the fully integrated mill in Texarkana, TX. This role is accountable for the safe and efficient operations of all Power, Recovery and Caustic Plant areas and reports to the Pulp and Power Operations Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide visible and active leadership for the overall Power & Recovery Operations
- Champion safety efforts and enforce safety standards and practices to create and maintain a safe work environment
- Utilize and refine standard work systems to achieve sustainable improvements in safety, environment, people, housekeeping, quality, cost, and performance
- Provide leadership and resources to support a high-performance work group
- Support high performance work group concepts with the ability to lead change
- Develop and manage Leadership Team Members through mentorship, coaching and accountability methods
- Collaborate with all levels of management to establish production and quality control standards for the department
- Manage all area production activities and establish area production priorities in line with effective operations and cost factors
- Develop area budgets and manage costs within established budgets and take ownership for financial performance
- Establish department goals and steward performance management processes consistent with company and mill direction
- Understand and manage environmental impacts of production processes to ensure environmental compliance
- Implement and manage improvement strategies to increase customer satisfaction, yield, efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability
- Utilize and improve standard work systems to support continuous improvement and accountability
- Develop capital projects and strategic improvement plans for the department
- Ensure effective communication of business strategy, goals, and initiatives to the department workforce
- Coordinate predictive and preventative maintenance with the Maintenance Department for long-term equipment sustainability
- Ensure compliance of mechanical integrity programs including tank integrity, pressure vessels, safety relief devices and infrastructure
- Maintain effective communications and working relationships with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, IT, Environmental, Human Resources, Engineering, Purchasing and Suppliers to ensure alignment with quality standards and operational efficiencies
- Other duties as assigned
Required Characteristics
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Paper Science or related field with ten (10) years operations experience within the paper industry including five (5) years in leadership rolesDemonstrated leadership skills with technical knowledge and operations experience in pulp and paper manufacturing processes, including digester operations, pulp screening, pulp washing, and bleaching processesStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsProven strategic planning and analytical skillsDemonstrated troubleshooting skills of the pulping processAbility to develop strategic priorities to meet short and long-term objectivesExperience in mentoring leadership staffExperience with reliability and continuous improvement principles and techniquesAbility to drive change leading to improved performance over timeStrong organizational skills with the ability to implement changes necessitated by internal and external business conditionsSolid oral and written communication skillsComprehensive knowledge of the operation of an integrated millProficiency in managing all levels of an operating area and interfacing with all levels of an organizationEntrepreneurial and innovative spirit with a servant / directive / collaborative leadership approachMust be able to pass a background check, drug screening and reference checkLegally authorized to work in the United StatesDesired Characteristics
