Work Hours : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm

Expected Starting Hourly Range : $23.67 - $29.59

Develops, implements, and manages projects to enhance external communications, community and public relations, and public education related to area of assignment. Plans and coordinates outreach events such as signature events, festivals, public education, and media events. Develops and builds partnerships with non-profits, government organizations, and other stakeholders.

Working Conditions

Typical indoor office environment. Occasional outdoor field work required, possibly in inclement weather. Sitting for long periods of time, working on computer. Lifting equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds alone and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Periodic overnight travel required, depending on area of assignment. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours.

Job Description

Essential Functions :

Area of Assignment : Parks and Natural Resources, Agriculture and Extension Division

Provides communication and marketing support for the UF / IFAS Extension Division. Coordinates resources for multiple communication projects supporting the Division's mission, goals, programs, and services. Develops, reviews, distributes, and maintains print and electronic communications including social media, e-newsletters, presentations, publications, website, and annual reports. Develops internal communications including applications and proposals; program and project summaries; reports of accomplishment; plans of work; and mission, vision, and service statements. Serves as liaison to County and UF Communications teams on projects to ensure brand standards are maintained and opportunities for cross promotion are maximized. Position requires the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and teams Position also requires outstanding writing, proofreading, and public speaking skills.

Leads programs including public educational classes, volunteer orientation classes, outreach workshops, and related community events. Presents information in an interpretive, hands-on manner designed to engage participants in a fun and inclusive atmosphere while communicating accurate information.

Builds successful partnerships and effective working relationships with government, private sector, and non-profit organization. Participates in public speaking engagements and networking opportunities.

Fosters collaborative relationships with local media outlets (print, online, and television) to promote activities, events, and announcements. Responds to media inquiries and requests for comment and interviews.

Represents area of assignment, Department, and Manatee County in a proactive, professional manner at all times.

Plans and coordinates large-scale signature events and outreach events for area of assignment. Develops event schedules, logistic plans, and coordinates with vendors.

Identifies and participates in community outreach opportunities such as fairs, festivals, local markets, and organizations.

Plans and coordinates programs for the general public regarding area of assignment, stakeholder partnerships, and general objectives of the Department.

Works with Information Outreach team to promotes programs and facilities related to area of assignment in accordance with the Department's marketing plan. Writes articles for newsletters, websites, social media, or other publications, as requested. Coordinates and / or creates interpretive materials such as signage, brochures, and presentations. Maintains branding.

Markets and promotes the site through website maintenance.

Maintains knowledge and understanding of current best practices, trends, laws, and issues affecting area of expertise. Upon approval, attends educational events that will increase professional knowledge and be otherwise beneficial to the County.

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degrees in a related field.

One (1) or more years of recent and relevant work experience in public relations, marketing, education, event planning or relatable experience.

Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Ability to develop and manage multiple projects and events simultaneously. Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to analyze and resolve difficult situations and problems.

Ability to work effectively with volunteers

Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities.

Good knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with government, private, and non-profit sector officials at all levels, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to influence others through explanation of facts, policies, and practices.

Capable of working independently with general supervision.
