JOB SUMMARY :
The Family Support Manager is responsible for leading the student intake processand building strong initial relationships with families enrolling in the Hopkins House Preschool Academy, providing culturally responsive services such as home visits, counseling, parenting support, and case management tailored to family needs, helping families access housing, financial aid, job training, and other community resources, while overseeing public aid applications and managing Hopkins House scholarship and financial assistance programs.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
All Programs :
- Interviews individuals and families during program intake process to document history, strengths, needs, and goals.
- Ensures equitable access to Hopkins House programs and services for individuals with special needs, including but not limited to those with physical and / or mental disabilities.
- Arranges transportation for students and / or family members to / from counseling, medical appointments, and basic needs shopping, as needed.
- Makes referrals to health care, employment, food, housing, before / after-care, and other social services, as needed.
- Supervises young children during and when traveling to / from counseling and medical appointments when parent / guardian is unavailable and provide on-call support as scheduled or required.
- Co-facilitates or facilitates culturally appropriate educational classes for families in subjects including but not limited to behavior management, independent living skills, parenting skills, household management, anger management, pregnancy / pre-natal care, etc.
- Provides culturally appropriate education and modeling techniques for Hopkins House staff dealing directly with families.
- Manages Preschool Academy Scholarship, Jasper-Johnson College Scholarship, Elward J. Alexander Memorial Gift, and ECLI Fellowship application process.
Preschool Academy :
Develops Individual Service Plans (ISP) for children and families.Provides culturally appropriate education and modeling techniques, and other direct family support services as outlined in ISP and / or Individual Education Plan (IEP).Hosts parent meetings, workshops, and various activities to support robust family engagement and participation in their childs education and well-being.Conducts home visits to conduct needs assessment, work with families to set goals, and monitor progress.Arranges developmental, hearing, dental, and vision screenings for children and coordinate and monitor the delivery of clinical services to students and families.Co-leads or leads preschool parent / child play groups.Assists Case Manager, Social Worker or Counselor to conduct family assessments and provide case management services including but not limited to Child Find and / or Parent Infant Education (PIE) program.Provides crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and other support services to children and families.Observes children in classrooms and support education staff with strategies and / or behavior interventions.Ensures awareness and compliance with Hopkins House Preschool Academy Behavior Guidance Policy, as needed.Consults regularly with Preschool Academy administrators to identify necessary intervention services, as needed, to children and families.General :
Attends designated internal staff meetings and professional development trainings.Attends Alexandria City Family Support Project peer supervision meetings.Attends Trustee meetings (e.g., Scholarships & Recognitions Committee and Programs & Assessment Committee).Assesses and submits, as appropriate, Preschool Academy Scholarship, Jasper-Johnson STEM College Scholarship, and ECLI Fellowship applications to the Trustee committees for action.Maintains family support records, including reports and records of all clinical contacts with children and families.Collects data and statistics as required for grant funding reporting and state and local government program assessments.Performs such other related duties as may, from time-to-time, be assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Associate degree or higher in social work, family counseling, mental health, psychology, or related field.
YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :
At least two (2) years of professional workexperience in related field. Clinical license in social worker is not required for this position.
OTHER RELATED REQUIREMENTS :
Valid driver's license required.Flexible schedule during evenings and weekends required.Strong organizational and communication skills required.Fluency in English : Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Urdu, Twi, Farsi, and / or Dari preferred but not required.BENEFITS :
