Position Summary :

The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the Tamarac Family Shelter remains safe, functional, and well-maintained for residents, staff, and community partners. This role performs hands-on maintenance work and serves as the lead point of contact for day-to-day facility needs, coordinating work orders, guiding maintenance / custodial staff, and supporting preventive maintenance planning alongside the Senior Facilities Manager.

Hourly / Salary : $23.00 – $26.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Job Location : Tamarac Family Non-Congregate Shelter

Reports to : Senior Facilities Manager

Travel Requirements : Local travel may be required

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead general maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC troubleshooting, carpentry, painting, and repair work.
  • Conduct daily inspections of buildings, guest rooms, common areas, and mechanical spaces.
  • Prioritize and complete repair requests and work orders efficiently and safely.
  • Serve as the on-shift lead for maintenance and custodial support needs.
  • Provide task guidance, training, and support to maintenance and housekeeping staff (no formal supervisory discipline authority).
  • Monitor supply inventory; initiate purchase requests when restocking is needed.
  • Communicate facility needs, risks, and repair recommendations to the Senior Facilities Manager.
  • Ensure safe operation of tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Support compliance with OSHA, ADA, fire / life safety, and HOST standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and documentation.
  • Assist or direct cleaning of common areas, laundry rooms, hallways, restrooms, and outdoor grounds when needed.
  • Support snow removal, groundskeeping, seasonal work, and emergency response tasks.
  • Participate in rotating on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Facilities Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of building maintenance (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting).
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot minor building system issues.
  • Ability to prioritize repairs in a fast-paced, residential shelter environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work respectfully with staff and residents.
  • Ability to model trauma-informed, dignity-centered interactions with guests and team members.
  • Competence using work order systems, tracking logs, and digital communication tools.
  • Expected Hours of Work

    Full-Time (may include evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations)

    Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes in difficult weather conditions.

    Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service works with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operations support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include staffing and management for shelter services, safety patrol, janitorial services, transportation, and more.

    Experience and Education Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of maintenance or building operations experience required.
  • Experience and Education Preferred

  • Experience in residential, hospitality, shelter, or high-volume facility settings strongly preferred.
  • Certifications in OSHA, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or related trades preferred
  • Additional Qualifications

  • Must pass background check for work with vulnerable populations.
  • Valid driver's license required for work-related driving.
