Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Pediatric RN with trach and vent experience, alternating day / night shifts, and a Maryland or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in a pediatric hospital unit caring for a diverse pediatric patient populationPatients include those with prematurity, apnea of prematurity (AOP), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary / lung disease (BLD / CLD), cardiac defects, feeding issues, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and iatrogenic NASPatient ratio is 1 : 3, up to 1 : 4 with lower acuity patientsSpecialized equipment includes tracheostomies, ventilators, peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), central lines, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and intravenous lipids (IL)Alternating day (7 : 00-19 : 00) and night (19 : 30-7 : 30) 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend requiredFloating within specialty / sister units is required, with travelers prioritized for floatingNo on-call responsibilitiesHoliday shifts required as scheduledResponsible for the care and monitoring of pediatric patients with complex medical needs including respiratory and cardiac supportMust be comfortable floating within hospital specialty units within the scope of experienceFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyReturn travelers must be away for at least 6 months; former staff must be gone for 12 months before becoming travelers againModules must be completed as part of onboardingTime-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial application and cannot be changed after offer; maximum 7 days off allowed, consecutive days over 4 require contract extensionHoliday coverage is required as scheduled and most units allow one major holiday off during the winter seasonBlock scheduling or specific schedule restrictions cannot be requestedRequirements
Active MD or compact RN license required at time of considerationCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; American Heart Association onlyCurrent Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required; Calm Every Storm online version onlyAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred; AHA onlyMinimum of 2 years pediatric RN experience requiredExperience with pediatric trach and vent care requiredTwo satisfactory professional references required : one from a supervisor or manager, one from a charge RNPermanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facilityBenefits
