The Surgical Technologist Apprentice is a paid apprenticeship position designed to provide hands-on training and foundational experience in the hospital operating room (OR) setting. In collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and other surgical team members, the apprentice supports patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures across both inpatient and outpatient surgical services.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile equipment, and supplies.
  • Assists the nurse when not scrubbed in obtaining supplies and equipment for the OR.
  • Assists in the organization, care and transfer of sterile supplies to the operative field; assists in creating and maintaining a sterile field; identifies and carries out interventions when a break in sterile technique occurs.

Requirements :

  • Must be 18 years of age or older by the program start date
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of prerequisite courses : Introduction to Medical Terminology and Body Systems
